With Alaa Al-Aswany, leading Egyptian author

Alaa Al-Aswany authored The Yacoubian Building, the biggest selling book in the Arabic language and has been called the “Armistead Maupin of Egypt.” His finely crafted and oft times controversial characters revealed a modern day Egypt dealing with the corrosive effect of dictatorship on human dignity.

His latest novel, Chicago, deals with the crises of identity amongst a cast of characters struggling to assimilate their traditional Egyptian values into a post 9-11 American world. Join us for this a valuable glimpse into the conflicting interpersonal politics of today’s Egyptian society.
